Artist's Description

This is a still life painting I did of a whelk shell. I wanted to try painting some different subject matter than my typical marsh scenes and florals. I placed a strong light source behind the shell to create highlights and dark shadows. The original painting is in a large plein aire style gold leaf crackle frame.

Sarah Grangier

Sarah Watson Grangier is a professional wildlife artist who graduated from Salisbury University with honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Art, in May 2003. Some of her artistic honors include 2nd place in the National Juried Exhibition "Light and Shadow," at the Fredericksburg (VA) Center for the Creative Arts, in November 2012, Best of Show in the Ward World Wildlife Painting Competition in 2003, and Artist of the Year for Pocomoke River, MD Chapter Ducks Unlimited in 2007. Some recent major accomplishments include illustrating two books. First, a cookbook by Bill Kendle titled, "Healthy Eating Made Easy," and second, "Bob the Big Bad Bluefish," a fantastic children's book by Bernadette Gesser.
